Visiting? – What to Expect

people

Visiting a church for the first time can be a little daunting, especially if you don’t know what to expect.  It doesn’t have to be that way, so below you will find out some more about our Sunday morning gatherings so when you show up you’re not immediately looking for an exit!

Arrival

If this is your first time at Gospel Community Church, it might be helpful to show up 10 – 15 minutes early before the service starts (10.00am) just to get acquainted with those who will already be there. They can help with questions you might have, where the toilets are and things like that.  When you arrive, there is a car park right across from the venue and free parking on Beafield Road also. We have A-frames to help you park close to where we meet.  As you enter the Church you might be given a welcome letter which explains a bit more about us and the service you are attending (Why we do what we do).  Once inside, you will be welcomed (with a smile) and directed to the Sanctuary where we hold Church. Sit wherever you like and enjoy the service. There are no steps at our venue in case you have access requests.

The Service

Each service starts with worship of God through music (congregational singing) and a short reading  and encouragement from the Bible. The music includes songs that have Biblical content but are written to contemporary/classic music. After corporate singing, an offering will be received from the congregation and then time is given to Corporate prayer and then a teaching from the Bible. Typically, we work through a book of the Bible and have some visual aids during the sermon to help if you want to take notes. We also regularly remember the sacrifice of Jesus by celebrating the Lord’s Supper (Communion)*. All followers of Jesus are invited to participate in this regardless of what church you belong to.  *Every First Sunday of the month.

After the service we host a morning tea during which you are welcome to stay and chat with other believers and ask questions and get to know some of the saints that attend GCC, etc.

Children

We don’t host a separate Children’s Church as a part of our Sunday Morning Service as we recognise that;

  • Church is for the family and not just for the grown ups.
  • Children can and should be a part of learning about the God of the Bible.

The benefits are;

  • Your whole family receives the same input.
  • You can talk with your kids about what they heard during the service
  • Children learn to sit, listen, worship in God’s presence as Gods word is taught
  • Children are encouraged to have their own Bible, notebook and pens.
  • Children have the opportunity to practice looking up verses in their Bibles each week.

NOTE: Parents are encouraged to bring along a notebook and pencils so kids can write down or draw anything that links to the Sunday Teaching as its happening. The Teacher (generally) uses a PowerPoint Presentation so that Kids and attenders can follow along visually with what is being taught. (We have notebooks and Bibles available for anyone to use during the service) Parents a helpful (free) resource can help equip you. We highly recommend it to you “Keeping Children in Church” by Scott Brown.

Infants are welcome in the service as are all children at any time. We believe children are not an interruption to a Sunday worship service and encourage parents to be responsible for their own children during the service. PLEASE NOTE: We have a parents room at the back of the Sanctuary to take you children if required and the sermon can also be heard and seen from there.

Reasons for attending

People attend Church for many reasons and we understand this. It is also an important process to get to know what a Church is about and who is both leading and attending a Church especially if you are looking for a new Church home for you and your family. We are a highly relational group of believers that values the connection and friendship that you may not quickly find in bigger gatherings. You will find a variety of people in our services from different cultures and backgrounds who have all come to find a Church they can grow, learn and serve the Lord and His people.

We hope to see you soon.
